How to Create a Stunning Simple Scrapbook Layout in 15 Minutes

One thing to remember in your scrapbooking efforts is that sometimes the simple things in life are far more effective. When we scrapbook, we normally find ourselves coming out with busy and ornate layouts with lots of embellishments, but sometimes it is nice just to have a clean and simply structured layout.

Every now and then it can be quite effective to have a simple, not too busy design that lets your photographs do the talking, instead of all the embellishments taking up all your focal attention.

One of my most effective layouts was one I created in about fifteen minutes. I had some beautiful photographs of a close friend standing in front of a body of water. I had three of these that were taken on the same day, but from different angles of her looking out over the lake. The reflections from the lake came out on the photograph bright blue in color and it was almost as if she were standing by a large swimming pool. I had been dying to scrapbook these for actually ages, but wasn’t quite sure how I could show them off to their full advantage. Luckily the photos all had the same blue from the water as a background color, and her costume was in a darker blue, which made choosing my background paper a breeze.

First I found some plain turquoise paper to use as a background, which brought out the colors in the photographs to perfection. After planning my layout, I adhered my photo’s straight onto the turquoise background without even matting them first. I put them quite close together and they took up most of the centre of my layout, leaving a lot of blue showing around the edges of the page.

I then took the color red, as it brought out the color of the towel that she was holding and cut out letters from red cardboard for my title. I cut the letters out big so that they could stand out on the layout, and some letters overlapped the photographs.

My embellishments consisted of two simple circles cut out in in different shades of blue in different sizes and I attached them with a blue brad and a had a short piece of red ribbon sticking out at the top of each circle. Even though the page was so quick to put together, it looked stunning. Amost everyone who pages through my album comments how beautiful that particular page looks.
